I was inspired to paint this after driving through Grandfather Mountain recently. I was driving carefully around the winding road and for a brief moment I saw a large male deer standing along the roadside. It lasted maybe a second but I knew that I wanted to paint what I saw that morning. The North Carolina sun was rising behind the deer and that sunrise was also amazing. My grandparent's farm provided the inspiration for my landscapes and transportation art. After high school I joined the Marines for tuition, and I became a rifle range instructor.
